Prof. Babu is an active member of ISSMGE, served as President of Indian Geotechnical Society (IGS) for two terms, from 2017-18 to 2019-20, as Chairman of TC-302 on Forensic Geotechnical Engineering (FGE) for two terms upto 2021; served as secretary during 2005-2009 and 2009-2013.

Prof. Babu was a member in International Technical Committee (TC-32) on Risk assessment in Geotechnical Engineering during 1997-2001 and 2001-2005. He is Editorial Board Member of ISSMGE International Journal of Geoengineering Case Histories besides many other journals. Prof. Babu delivered special lecture in ICSMGE 2017 in Seoul which is hosted in ISSMGE Virtual University. He is a teacher, researcher and consultant. He guided a number of students for research degrees (21 Ph.D and M. S 5 (Engg. Total 26) and wrote a book on soil reinforcement and geosynthetics, edited ten books and proceedings and has several publications (International and national Journals -171, International and national conf. more than 169 Total over 340).
